The Global Ocean Energy Alliance (GLOEA):

Using the Oceans to Transform Nations’ Power-Generating Capacities

Almost all Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Coastal Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are ninety percent (90%) dependent on the importation of fossil fuels, which requires them to spend tens of billions of dollars in foreign exchange annually to import petroleum fuels.

SIDS and Coastal LDCs will need to replace ten thousand (10,000) megawatts of fossil-fuel-powered electricity-generating plants over the next few decades, plants that consume more than $5 billion in fuel annually.

Ten thousand megawatts represent the vast majority of existing generating capacity in the SIDS and Coastal LDCs. However, because most of these plants have reached or exceeded their economic life and are no longer efficient fuel users, the Global Ocean Energy Alliance (GLOEA) ensures that we take collective action to replace these generators with Ocean Energy Systems.

Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Coastal Least Developed Countries (LDCs) import more than 250 million barrels of petroleum every year.

The People’s Energy Vision

The President’s Personal Initiative (2022-2023): Commercial-Scale Deployment of SIDS-Appropriate Technologies aims, through the Global Ocean Energy Alliance (GLOEA), to advocate strongly for the interests of SIDS and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to get access to ocean technology and expertise, as well as a “fair share” of the envisaged benefits and profits.
